Kate, Student Intern
"I can talk about anything without having to feel vulnerable and judged."

"Hi, my name is Kate, and I'm an intern here at Alongside because I am passionate about mental health and supporting other teen's wellbeing.

As a student and teenager who grew up in the midst of the Covid19 pandemic, I've seen firsthand the importance of addressing the teenage mental health crisis. Yet I've also seen the lack of resources and accessible help in many communities across the nation. I've witnessed friends, neighbors, and even myself want to reach out and want to feel better.

But we don't. Why? Because school counselors are overworked and don't have enough time to see us. Because we are scared that we will be judged and ostracized. Because there just isn't enough time, money, or guidance that will allow us to seek help.

That's where Alongside comes in.

As I'm laying on my bed at 9 PM feeling anxious and isolated, I used to scroll through my social media platforms, spiraling even further. Yet now, with only a couple clicks, I am able to access a supportive, healthy, clinician approved platform.

I can talk to my llama friend about anything anytime without having to feel vulnerable and judged. No longer do I feel isolated and frustrated by all the barriers we as teens have to face when asking for help. I feel validated and hopeful for the future of teen mental health.

I am proud of Alongside's accessibility and truly believe that it is a viable resource for teens everywhere."
