We're continually enhancing Alongside to better serve students and provide schools with effective, user-friendly tools. Check out these recent updates, designed to improve crisis intervention, accessibility, self-reflection, and proactive mental health care.
Direct-Connect to 988 When Crisis Is Triggered in a Chat
We’re taking extra steps to ensure support is there when students need it most. If a student shares risk of harm to themselves or others on their laptop, they will now receive an immediate prompt to connect with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. On mobile, we’ll prompt them to call or text 988 with just a tap.
Spread the word: Make sure all students and staff know how to access the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline.
Text-to-Speech Chat Capability (No Need to Type!)
To make mental health support more accessible, students can now just tap the microphone icon and say what’s on their mind—Kiwi will respond like they had typed it out. This works not only in English but in other languages too. Bonus: this works on the journal page, too.
Speak for yourself: Hop into the app, tap the mic, and start your own conversation with Kiwi today!
Journaling Made Easier (and More Fun!)
We’ve completely redesigned the journal page to make it simple, smooth, and satisfying. Here’s what’s new:
- Instant access to free-write options or guided prompts
- The ability to mark prompts as complete and track progress over time
- Easy navigation to revisit past entries for self-reflection
This new design encourages consistency in journaling, helping students gain deeper insight into their emotions while allowing support staff to promote structured reflection as a mental wellness strategy.
Your turn: Write your own journal prompt!
Ability to Set Personalized Reminders
We all need a little nudge sometimes. With personalized reminders, students can now set customized reminders to check in on their mood, complete journal prompts, or engage in other self-care activities. By selecting specific days and times, they can receive timely nudges that encourage preventative mental health self-care.
Try it out: Set a reminder in the app to track your own mood each day!
